As any parent can tell you: kids become quite bored during quarantine! In order to find a little excitement in his lockdown, this child started waiting for his local UPS driver everyday to say hi. Little did the boy know, the daily hellos meant the world to the driver as well! As a result, the UPS worker prepared quite the surprise delivery for the little boy…
A Little Boy Waiting For A Delivery…
There’s something exciting about seeing the UPS delivery person, even for adults. So, during the recent lockdowns, little 5-year-old Langston Walbuck has developed quite the routine. Every day, Langston waits to see his local UPS driver, Hector Velasco, arrive at his apartment complex. It seemed that the little boy wanted a package of his own, but that day never arrived. So, Velasco came up with an idea: he would make a little something for the boy that always waved to him. Of course, Hector first okay-ed the idea with Langston’s mother, Brooke Walbuck, by leaving a note on their front door.
“Hi, this is Hector, your UPS driver,” he wrote. “[I’ve] seen your son plenty of times on the balcony and he seems very sad [that] he doesn’t get any packages,” the note said. “I told him ‘don’t worry, maybe next time.’ So, anyway, I’ve bought something and put it in a box. Just wanted to know his name so I can put it on the box.” Along with the note, Velasco left his phone number.
Thankfully, Brooke Walbuck and her husband, Sam, loved the idea. They called Velasco back immediately, telling him he could give their son a special present. Soon, the big day arrived…
The Best Surprise from the Best UPS Driver
When Velasco turned the corner and approached the Walbucks’ apartment, he acted as though it was any other day. Meanwhile, as always, Langston waited for him! Of course, the little boy had no idea that surprise waited for him inside the UPS truck. However, Langston quickly figured it out when the UPS driver walked right up to him and placed a package at his feet. Overcome with surprise, Langston quickly opened his surprise package. Inside, Velasco had filled the delivery with candy, toy cars, snacks, and plenty of other goodies! As you might imagine, Langston could barely contain his excitement. “It made me feel special,” the little boy said.
Why would a UPS driver go so far out of his way for a child that isn’t his? Well, as Velasco told local news, he has two daughters of his own. As such, he understands how challenging lockdowns can be for parents. “The world didn’t give my wife and I any boys. Gave us two beautiful girls. And I’ve had [these] cars in my collection but [you’ve got to] let them go some time and I felt like today was the day. [Your] son taught me a lesson that it’s not only my kids going through this epidemic. Our kids are our world and the future,” he said. Now, Velasco and Langston have gone viral!
Appreciation From Parents
After Brooke Walbuck recorded Velasco and Langston’s interaction on her phone, she uploaded it to her Facebook. There, the video went viral, with so many parents around the world praising the UPS driver for his incredible kind actions.
“It’s been a really meaningful, special message to many of our friends and family right now. So it means a lot,” Brooke wrote in her post. “Humanity is a pretty amazing thing. Our UPS driver, Hector, made a huge impact on our family today with a gesture we will never forget.” Meanwhile, Langston’s father also commented! “For him to be that busy and still be that thoughtful, it just says a lot, for him as a person and as a dad,” he commented.
The incredible family they are, Langston, Brooke, and Sam never forgot what Hector Velasco did. In fact, they decided to give back! As it turns out, Langston then went out and bought presents for Velasco’s daughters, which he gifted to the UPS driver!
