Real-life Secret Santas can change people’s lives. Just take this story from earlier this week in Mississippi: a very generous person paid off every layaway item at a Walmart!
Appreciation For The Donation
In the town of Canton, Mississippi, a local Secret Santa helped hundreds feel incredibly cheerful and thankful this holiday season. Felicia McKay experienced it first hand! “I went to the store to pick up a layaway for my grandchildren. When I got back to the layaway department, the Walmart associate told me that a secret Santa paid off my layaway,” McKay said. “I thought he was joking. He was like, ‘No ma’am. He paid off like $50,000 of random layaways…I was just stunned.”
The Walmart cashier continued to reveal more McKay, she could not believe what she was hearing. When the amazing man, who would like to remain anonymous, went to the Canton Walmart manager his magical idea, the whole team loved it! While the Secret Santa also asked that the amount remain unrevealed, it estimated that he covered nearly $50,000 worth of food, presents, and holiday decorations. The person wanted to make sure his neighbors feel loved and remind them of the true meaning of Christmas.
As you might imagine, McKay wanted to find a way to say thank you. “After I got myself together, I was like, ‘Someone needs to report this to the news. Even if he doesn’t want recognition, he needs to know that somebody is appreciative of what he’s done.’,” she recalled.
Blessed Day
“It is refreshing to hear something good and let people know that there are still good people out there,” McKay said. “No matter what we are going through, there are still good people out there that are doing what it takes to be a blessing.”
Another customer, Belinda Brooks, also found herself suddenly helped by the incredible Secret Santa. In fact, the sudden donation surprise actually changed her holiday plans! Now, Brooks can afford to give even more gifts this year to friends and family. However, in the end, as long as her son is happy, Brooks is happy too. “I will get everything he asked for, so I’m good on that as long as he’s happy. I’m fine with that,” she said.
However, this incredible story does not end there! A Walmart spokesperson shared that some items from the layaway tickets were on sale, meaning that there was a bit of cash left over after the Secret Santa’s magical visit. After checking the excess amount, the staff found a tidy sum in there! After thinking about what to do, the Canton Walmart decided to follow in the anonymous man’s footsteps. They donated the money to local toy drives, as well as the hunger-relief organization Feeding America. Now, the funds will also help feed starving families during the holidays.
