This year turned out to be rather hard for everyone, resulting in lost homes and jobs. Some can’t even afford a holiday meal. Thankfully, one man from Pennsylvania is here to give out Christmas trees to families in need.
Buying Trees For Those Who Can’t Afford It
Jeff Graham was once again going to the McPherson’s Tree Farm with his family to pick out a beautiful Christmas tree. He was driving a truck with a huge bed that prompted the employee to ask how many trees they’ll be getting. While it was an obvious joke, Graham started wondering: how many families can’t afford to buy a festive tree this year? He understood those people. Graham himself had a few hard months because of the pandemic, struggling to meet the ends, yet, his business recovered just as quickly.
He thought of those that lost their positions and salary and wanted to help them with the holiday spirit. After grabbing a tree for his family, the man decided to come back and get a lot more trees next time. Upon returning, Graham asked for 30 trees – his wife, daughter, and two employees joined the parade of love. “At first they looked at me like they didn’t believe it,” Graham said. Gian Walker, a worker on the Tree Farm from the fourth generation, said that it was the first time someone decided to do a good deed at the farm. “For all of those generations, none of us can remember someone doing something like this,” she said.
Tears Of Happiness
The Tree Farm was founded in the ’50s by Walker’s grandfather Sidney McPherson. Since then, her whole family has been looking out for the business and growing trees for sale together, generation after generation. There are more than 12,000 trees on the farm. John Gouker, Walker’s father, was very interested in the number of trees Graham bought. “I don’t mean to be nosy, but what are you going to do with all these trees?” he asked. And the latter told him about an amazing touch of kindness he wanted to share with families in need.
“My dad was taken aback, and he got a little choked up,” Walker said. “We’ve never had anybody do something like that.” While the farm was paying it forward for the community, Graham’s presents are the most outstanding so far. “It was a real honor and a privilege to be a part of this,” Walker stated. After loading up the trees, the man posted a note to Facebook, stating the address where he’ll be giving out Christmas trees. When the family got back there, the line already waited for them. One of the people in line was a woman who needed help – and she got an envelope along with her festive tree. Inside, Graham left a few gift cards, which made the woman cry. “That one woman right there, that made it all worth it,” he said. “That was the feeling you were going for.” His kids also gave out candy canes. Their family spent over $1,000 that day.
“We were all happy. Everybody was happy. If nobody else showed up, that one lady, that made it all worth it,” he said.
