In the modern world, it seems like there’s no escape from the pressure and stress of daily life. And just two weeks of vacation a year? That’s not enough! So what about six months on a remote Irish island, with no electricity or internet connection? If that sounds like something you would enjoy, read on…
Unique Opportunity

For those seeking a real rest from social media, the 9-to-5 life, and the daily news cycle, there’s a new, perfect job for you! Unfortunately, it’s not a full-time job. But it does come with an amazing perk: a friend can join you – for free! A unique island, Great Blasket Island, is looking for a couple of friends who’ll live and work there from April to October, at the tourism center on the island.
In case you don’t know, the Basket Islands are a large chain off the western coast of Ireland. They’re world-renowned for their incredible hiking trails and wildlife.
“A unique position required – looking for long term management of Island Accommodation and Coffee Shop. Couple or two friends. 1st April 2020 – October 2020 accommodation and food provided,” the Island’s tourist board posted on Twitter.
Back To Basics

There’s much more about the job position to know, though! Despite being a popular tourist destination, not many people live on Great Basket Island. In fact, the island features no running water or internet access. Still, they do have plenty of places to stay! “In the past few years, a number of the houses have been restored and amenities provided for visitors to the island,” the island’s official website states.
Moreover, there’s no wi-fi, electricity, no baths, and hot morning showers. If you come to the Great Blasket Island, you instantly go back to basics and learn to live a simple life. “It’s intense and tough, but it’s a very unique position. It’s back to basics — fires, candles, stoves, wildlife, and nature,” said the one who posted the job advert, Alice Hayes. So, message [email protected] for more information about working on the untouched islands!
What About New Zealand?

Like the idea of living in the wilderness, but still, want hot showers? Well, at the end of last year, Karl Reipen, a German multi-millionaire, posted about looking for 10 lucky people to live on his incredible property in New Zealand. As he states, he wanted to find “nice people,” who’ll get to visit and spend time in the 540-acre Awakino estate with the winery and stables for horses. Moreover, like Great Basket Island, workers will have access to hiking trails and beaches!
Applicants need to be under 70 and feel comfortable living 90 minutes from the nearest hospitals and stores. Then, the winners will “live in houses by two persons and share a beautiful winery for social meetings and dining.” They’ll “enjoy walking, fishing, shopping, kayaking, bird watching, swimming, or looking at nice animals.”
So, anyone looking for beautiful working conditions can be a lucky winner. Don’t forget to try your luck and apply as soon as possible!
