Despite outcry from some of the public, many fast-food chains are slowly opening up for dine-in service. So, admist the “new normal,” Burger King has tried to inject a little humor into the situation by introducing “social distance crowns.”
The Social Distance Crown
All around the world, restaurants are attempting to re-open during COVID-19. Of course, for some, it’s easy to just put each table at least 6 feet apart and operate at 50% capacity. However, many chains, like Burger King, are trying to figure out the best way to do things. So, to lighten the mood, they’ve introduced “social distance crowns” in Germany, large crowns that keep their visitors six feet apart. “We wanted to re-enforce the rules of high safety and hygiene standards that the BK restaurants are following,” a Burger King representative commented. “The do-it-yourself social distance crown was a fun and playful way to remind our guests to practice social distancing while they are enjoying food in the restaurants.”
Incredibly, believe it or not, Burger King did not stop their social distancing campaign there! In other countries, like Italy, the chain introduced a “Social Distancing Whopper” alongside a very strange commercial…
Burger King Doubles Down
In case you could not tell from the photo, the “Social Distancing Whopper” is a standard Whopper – with three times the onion! That’s certain to keep everyone away!
At the same time, Burger King released a hysterical commercial advertising the burger. In it, a woman elects to walk over ten flights of stairs, just to avoid sharing an elevator with a man who ate the Social Distancing Whopper. “The triple onion Whopper that helps others stay away,” the commercial concludes. While Burger King has yet to release any information on whether the burger works, or will come to other countries, we hope they do soon. Meanwhile, other chains have tried their own ways to keep dine-in open during COVID.
Dine In A Huge Field
On the other hand, a list of different restaurants tries unique tricks to make their customers keep six feet apart, including using paper cutouts, dolls and mannequins, tape, and so on. As you can see, café Rothe in Schwerin, Germany, gives each customer a hat with pool noodles attached to it. Long noodles end up bumping together if you sit too close, ensuring social distancing! Then, in Thailand, Maison Saigon uses stuffed animals, mostly panda bears, to show people where they can and can’t sit.
On the other hand, a restaurant in Sweden, Table for One, serves only one person a day, and their waiter doesn’t even deliver the food! Instead, it is transported in a basket with a rope.
Stateside, Fish Tales Bar & Grill in Maryland created portable tables from the inflatable inner tubes, which keep every customer away from others. But the top-notch creation goes out to the restaurant called Bord för En! As the government supports the decision to lighten the quarantine, some Burger King locations will open up in North America. It’s not clear whether the “Social Distancing Whopper” will be available, though, but asking for extra onion can do the trick!
