Despite the continuing coronavirus pandemic, AMC Theaters is currently planning a reopening plan that will include, among other things, 15 cent tickets. Read on to discover everything you need to know…
15 Cent Tickets
Calling it “Movies in 2020 at 1920 Prices,” AMC Theaters will launch the 15 cent promotion for just one day, Augst 20, reopening day. Currently, the company plans to open 100 cinemas initially on that day, all while still maintaining social distancing rules and regulations. 15 cents also means more to the company than a simple way to get customers in the door. Its also the day the Dubinsky Brothers founded AMC Theaters.
“We are thrilled to once again open our doors to American moviegoers who are looking for an opportunity to get out of their houses and apartments and escape into the magic of the movies,” Adam Aron, CEO, and President of AMC Theatres announced in the official statement. “As our guests return on our first day of resumed operations on Aug. 20, we invite them to join us in celebrating a return to the movies, and in celebrating 100 years of AMC making smiles happen with movies at 1920 prices of only 15 cents each.”
However, one big question remains: should movie theaters even reopen during coronavirus?
Should AMC Theaters Reopen?
While some are celebrating the cheap tickets, many are wondering if AMC Theaters is making the right decision. After all, people returning to the cinemas right now could spark another rise in COVID-19 cases in the United States. All this while the situation does not look great as is. Numbers in many areas are continuing to grow, and obviously, movie theaters are enclosed spaces with recycled air. However, AMC Theaters claim that they’ll be strict with coronavirus regulations in the cinemas, including everything from requiring masks to having large spaces between groups in auditoriums.
After the initial 100 movie theaters opening this month, AMC Theaters plans to have 400 open by September 4th. Unfortunately, the company will soon run into another problem: outside of a few held releases like Christopher Nolan’s Tenet and the new X-Men Universe movie The New Mutants, the theaters will have little to show!
Classics On Screen
Apart from new releases, AMC plans to bring back older movies for just $5. This will include Inception, Black Panther, Ghostbusters, Grease, and Star Wars: Episode V—The Empire Strikes Back and many more classic! Be aware – theaters in New York, New Jersey, and California are still closed. Check the AMC Theaters website if you live in a different state to see if a theater near you will participate or reopen soon.
As for those who can visit, they’ll have to wear masks all the time in the theater and maintain a distance of at least 6 feet at all times. Meanwhile, not only will the theaters operate at 50% capacity during showings, but they will also only have half the typical showtimes, allowing time for deep cleans between screenings.
AMC Has tried many times to reopen, and this is their newest ploy. Let’s see if it works!
