It seems like 2020 really is the year of people out-tipping one another! Celebrities, CEOs, and entrepreneurs have been acknowledging how hard it is to be a waiter and have been posting their massive tips on social media. Recently, one waitress even received a $5,000 tip from a billionaire!
Unbelievable Tip
Jennifer Navaria, a server at the Seaglass Restaurant in Salisbury, Massachusetts, made a surprising post on Facebook recently. In it, she recounted how a billionaire customer left her an incredible $5,000 tip! At first, as you might imagine, she couldn’t believe her eyes. Navaria thought it was a $50 tip, not a whole $5,000!
“I was, like, ‘Oh, wait a minute,’ so then I looked down again, and I saw it was four digits, then a decimal point. I said, ‘You made my night,’ but, really, he made my month,” the lucky server wrote about the situation on social media.
Of course, $5,000 if little for a billionaire like Ernie Boch Jr., the CEO, and president of Boch Enterprises, a “business consisting primarily of automobile dealerships in Norwood, Massachusetts.” A spokesperson for the company later explained that Boch Jr. dined at the restaurant and while there noticed that it lacked customers. So, he decided to surprise his waitress! Boch Jr.’s meal cost only $157.56, and he decided to leave $5,000, a 3,184% tip!
“Who’s Making The Next Move?”
Boch didn’t leave without a note or a message. “The waiters and waitresses, they’re such fine people. It really hit me, and she was just so outstanding, I said, ‘This is it! This is the 2020 Donnie challenge,'” the CEO said. “Who’s making the next move? Who’s it going to be? Who’s going to help us out? It’s got to be more than me – I was more than Donnie – (so) it’s got to be more than me. Let’s keep it going!” By Donnie, Boch Jr. meant celebrity Donnie Whalberg, who also recently left a massive tip for a waitress.
“Thank you, Ernie Boch, for your amazing generosity! You certainly made a job I really enjoy that much better,” Boch’s server wrote on Facebook. Navaria even asked her friends on Facebook to repost and share this receipt with Wahlberg. “I hear about this happening to other people, and I knew about that challenge, but who would have ever thought it would happen to you?”
The 2020 Tip Challenge
It seems like the billionaire decided to join the movement but took it to another level! Now, he’s challenging others to tip even more. “Donnie, your move,” Boch Jr. wrote on the receipt.
However, it’s not just celebrities and CEOs who are joining in the 2020 Tip Challenge. Regular people are also trying to help out and say thank you to the service industry. Some have tipped $2,020, $220, $200, or even just $20.00 on a coffee bill. There are tons of ways to participate!
