Everyone knows someone that’s incredibly lucky. Well, in her hometown in Kansas, that lucky person is 18-year-old high school student Sloan Stanley. On her very first time playing the lottery, Stanley won a whopping $25,000. That’s right!
18-Year-Old’s Huge Lottery Win
It all started when 18-year-old high school student Sloan Stanley from Kansas decided to celebrate her 18th birthday in style. Like so many of us did, Stanley decided to enjoy all her newfound adult freedoms – including purchasing a lottery ticket. Of course, she picked up the Kansas Lottery’s $5 Cash Cow instant game ticket nonchalantly, thinking nothing would come of it. “I bought the Cash Cow ticket because I like cows and thought it was cute,” Stanley said.
However, whatever feeling inside her must have guided her right, as Stanley ended up winning $25,000 from her ticket! “I was in shock that the first ticket I ever bought ended up winning $25,000!” she said. In fact, at first, Stanley’s family truly couldn’t believe it! Her father felt adamant that she must have received a smaller prize.
Lucky First Ticket
In the end, the Stanley family accepted Sloan’s incredible luck. “My family is all super excited and happy for me, and they still can’t believe it!” she said. Instead of spending that money at the mall, the responsible teen has a solid plan in place: Stanley’s using most of the money to help her attend Fort Hays State University in the fall. A career-oriented young woman, she hopes it will keep her from financial troubles. “I’m excited to start college later this year and I hope this will help me graduate without debt,” Stanley said. Of course, the teen does plan on spending a little on herself by treating her and her friends to a nice dinner!
As you might imagine, it’s very “rare for any player to nab a top prize on the very first Lottery ticket they ever purchased,” stated Kansas Lottery spokesperson Jessica Herrera.
If you’re in Kansas and want to try their luck at repeating Stanley’s win and still grab a ticket. Along with the win announcement, Kanasa Lottery also said that there are still plenty of prizes, including four more $25,000 top prizes, three $1,000 checks, 42 $500 tickets, and thousands of smaller prizes. While we certainly don’t recommend the lottery as a long-term financial strategy, it can be fun every once and a while!
