Are you looking for a change in your surroundings? Well, there’s good news! Cities around the United States will pay newcomers to move there. That’s right!
One of the most famous pay-to-move programs in America is Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Tulsa Remote. The program is perfect for a digital nomad or remote worker looking for a fresh start in a new city. Tulsa Remote offers remote workers a $10,000 payment for moving to Tusla for a year, as well as a paid-for pace in a co-working center. Additionally, the program will also help accepted applicants find a place to live in the Art Deco-inspired city or its suburbs. As long as you’re 18, work remotely, and can move to Tulsa within a year, feel free to apply!
Are you the type of person who has always dreamed of building their own home? Well, consider Newton, Iowa. Believe it or not, The Newton Housing Initiative will pay anyone willing to build a home within city limits. “The Newton Housing Initiative, approved by City Council in 2014, provided incentives to home builders, real estate developers, property owners, and homebuyers…” reads the initiative website.
Home plans valued at less than $180,000 will earn the owners a $5,000 incentive, while those over earn $10,000. Meanwhile, everyone who builds receives a Get to Know Newton Welcome Package of $2,500. Not too shabby!
The Shoals Area, Alabama
Easily one of the most beautiful, well-rounded cities in the south, The Shoals Area in Alabama has something else to offer: it will pay you to move there! The city currently offers a $10,000 bonus to move there. “It takes time, money, and careful planning to move to a new city. We’ll give you 25% upfront to help with the costs of relocating, another 25% after your first 6 months in the Shoals, and the remaining 50% when you’ve completed your first year here,” the website reads. Applications requirements include being over 18, eligible to work in the U.S., making over $52,000 as a full-time worker, and the ability to relocate within six months.
Love the Netflix show Ozarks? Get paid to move there! “One of the best costs of living, plentiful outdoor lifestyle perks, nationally ranked arts, culture, and cuisine scenes, and per capita income that’s 14% higher than the national average,” the Northwest Arkansas Council website reads. That’s certainly an attention grabber! Like many other places, the small counties of Benton and Washington, nestled in the Ozarks, are offering $10,000 to new residents.
In addition to the $10,000, newcomers have the choice between a new bike to transverse the land in or an annual membership to the local Arts and Culture Institute. That’s frosting on the cake!
Looking for a low-cost but stunning city to move to? Savannah, Georgia might just be the place! Currently, the city’s looking for remote tech workers to move there. Applicants have to meet strict requirements, though, including three years of work experience and an agreement to sign a long-term lease with their chosen property. Meanwhile, for doing all that, the local government will give selected applicants $2,000 and help them find a new job in town.
With such unique places looking for newcomers, and remote work blowing up in response to the coronavirus, now might just be the perfect time to move!
